Vineyard Ploughing & Care

Our ploughing service is carried out the old-fashioned way: horse-drawn, with a traditional single-furrow plough. In France, this method is known as Les 4 façons — “the four ways to work the vineyard soil.”

This approach aims to weed mechanically, reducing competition around the vines, and to strengthen the plants by encouraging deeper root growth.

The process includes four passes across the season:

  • Two hilling-up passes: the soil is drawn up around the base of the vines, protecting roots and conserving moisture.

  • Two de-hilling passes: the soil is brought back down, naturally weeding and aerating the ground.

It’s a slow, sustainable rhythm that mirrors the seasonal heartbeat of the vineyard — and keeps the vines healthy without chemicals or heavy machinery.
